Storyboards

Film, Television, Games and Commercials are all visual mediums that story artists have made huge but silent contributions to.  Animation simply wouldn't exist without them.  Though never the final product, the story artists work ripples through the rest of the creative process.
Story artists are the first artist to in the process (often even before a writer is involved) in formulating the key visual language, tone, narrative, design, cinematography, caricature, comedy, drama and the worlds their characters inhabit. The storyboards are the visual foundation blocks on which everything else is built.
Great story artists take the Directors vision and bring to the table an enormous knowledge of  filmcraft and distill into drawings the story visually. Often storyboards are a journey of discovery to find out what a Director wants or sometimes more importantly what he doesn't want.
Most of the coolest visuals you've ever seen exist because an story artist drew them onto a little rectangular box and the director said "Great! I love it!"
